The South Australian Poultry Association is a strong supporter of the Poultry and Pigeon Section of the Royal Adelaide Show. This show is the premier poultry show in the state. Exhibiting in the poultry section and winning an award is considered to be the benchmark against which a successful breeding program can be measured.

The show commences on the first Friday in September each year. Birds are penned on the Thursday and are released on the Sunday after the Show finishes.

During the duration of the show the birds are fed, watered and cared for by the Show Society.

Entries for the poultry section close on the first Friday in July.

Schedules and entry forms can be obtained by:-

  1. telephoning the Royal Showgrounds (08) 8210 5211
  2. writing to the Royal A and H Society PO Box 108 GOODWOOD 5034

Entry forms can be downloaded from their web site

ROYAL SHOW STAND

obj175geo177pg8p6[1] During each Royal Adelaide Show the South Australian Poultry Association provides an information service in the Poultry Pavilion at the showgrounds.

Besides answering a multitude of questions about chooks generally the representatives have for sale a number of association publications. They have registration forms and can answer questions about joining the association or the clubs.

Why not go to the Royal Adelaide Show, visit the poultry display in the Stirling Angus Hall (up the ramp) and talk to our people about breeding and showing pure breeds of poultry.

The stand is manned at all times during the show. No question is too difficult for our well-informed attendants.

If you are interested in taking up breeding and exhibiting as a recreational activity the best place to see the various breeds that are available is during the Adelaide Royal
