GOOD ENTRIES FOR STRATH POULTRY & PIGEON SHOW
The Strathalbyn & Districts Poultry & Pigeon Club Autumn Show held at the Strathalbyn Show- grounds on Sunday created a lot of interest, 400 poultry & 50 pigeons in the Show, was a great day, with special thanks conveyed to Laucke’s Mills for their sponsorship Approximately 150 - 200 interested spectatators came along to have a look during the day, many looking for some advice.
This was the third year that the Autumn Show was held separately from the very popular Poultry Sale, which this year was held at the end of March, with 750 birds being offered for sale, with both events growing rapidly each year.
40 exhibitors came from near & far for the Autumn Show, travelling from local areas including Strathalbyn, Milang, Mt Barker, and also Murray Bridge, McLaren Vale, McLaren Flat, Reynella, Fullarton, Aldinga Beach, Verdun, Tea Tree Gully, Yankalilla, Victor Harbor, Inman Valley, Tailem Bend and as far away as Geranium, Sherlock, Keith, Padthaway & Millicent.
Firstly, Doug Abbott gave thanks to all those who supported the Pigeon Show & thanks to Judge Kym Rumball.
The President, Trudy Hull then thanked everyone for their attendance & support, with a special thanks conveyed to the stewards for all their help & especially the poultry judges, Tom Bowden, Jeff Fulcher & Liam O’Brien who commented on the overall high standard of birds. In Soft Feather Bantams there were some very good Rosecombs, Rhode Island Red, Wyandotte’s & Pekins. Well done to these exhibitors. Some Hard Feather breeds were out of condition and was unfortunate for some good birds that had broken wing feathers. The Indian, Jubilee & Blue Duckwings were very good birds. There were also some very nice large fowl, especially the Rhode Island Red & Langshans. Ducks were well presented especially Rouens, Indian Runners and Pekins. Juniors need more encouragement. Duckwing Modern Cock and Pullet were very nice junior birds.
The judges conveyed thanks to Poultry Club for their invitation to judge & to their stewards for all their help.
After 2 events now being held so far by the club this year, the final event will be the Annual Show on Sunday July 25. Further details about the club can be obtained from the secretary, Rex Liebelt on 85363739.
